Yes — scam
Is it a scam if a Marketplace buyer overpays and wants the difference back?
Yes — the overpayment trick is one of the oldest Marketplace cons. The buyer sends a fake payment confirmation — a doctored email or screenshot — “for too much,” then pressures you to refund the difference before you discover the original payment never existed. Money only counts when it shows as settled inside your own account, checked in the app or at your bank — never in an email. The same con runs with checks mailed “for too much.”
